stackedphones

Due to the new HIPAA compliance guidelines that came out in September, more organizations rush to get compliant messaging solutions such as secure SMS. However, there are many reasons why secured texting is NOT acceptable for healthcare communication and is NOT a suitable replacement for pagers. 1) Secured Texting does NOT enable messages to be sent through multiple platforms; messages can only be sent through the application 2) Secured Texting does NOT provide persistent alerts until the message is acknowledged; it will only alert you once. 3) Secured Texting does NOT offer a repeated delivery until your device is operational 4) Secured Texting does NOT have a time stamped audit trial for ALL messages 5) Secured Texting does NOT allow for group or escalation group messages. 6) Secured Texting IS NOT fully HIPAA compliant. Email & SMS: NOT Good Enough For IT Monitoring

networkmonitoring

Are you an IT Administrator staring at your phone’s screen all day waiting for an email or text?  Have you ever missed a CRITICAL email or text because it didn’t grab your attention? Using email and SMS for network alerts has been a widely used practice since the early 90’s, but is not an effective and efficient way of receiving these kinds of CRITICAL alerts.  Alert notifications are a crucial part of your system monitoring. Missing even one single email or text can result in downtime which can also result in revenue loss, reputation damage, and potential customer defections. System monitoring without a noticeable alert is like getting a Pizza delivered to your building but not knowing when, so unless you sit there by the lobby waiting for that Pizza, by the time you find the Pizza it’s stale and cold. OnPage helps to eliminate this process so that you can receive your […] Read more »

Using SMS or email for CRITICAL alerts should be omitted for this reason. OnPage has a very distinct alert that will grab your attention immediately. […] Read more »

KLAS Study Shows Healthcare Concerns over BYOD

byod

A recent study completed by KLAS Research shows that health care providers are concerned about security and safety in the ever increasing BYOD mobile healthcare environment. KLAS surveyed 105 CIOs, IT specialists, and physicians to complete their study. They found that 70 percent of physicians use mobile devices to access sensitive information including electronic health records. Even more surprising was that out of the people surveyed, 94% were using Apple products over Android or Blackberry. Apple has become a staple in modern technology and many professions are finding uses for Apple products outside of their normal capabilities. While Apple products and other Smartphone’s are impressive, they don’t provide the necessary security features that physicians need for communication. “With the increased use of personal mobile devices in healthcare becoming more prevalent, providers are very concerned about controlling what data is accessed, where it is stored, and how the data can be […] Read more »

Physician Shortage Leads to Longer Wait Time for Patients

shortage of drs

If you had the chance to read OnPage’s previous post “Doctors speak up for Digital Communications” then you understand how overworked doctors are feeling with paperwork, patient visits, and follow ups. Well recently it has also been announced that there is a growing shortage of physicians in some specialties which could result in even longer wait times and delays in receiving medical care. A major reason our doctors are outnumbered by patients is because of the increasing age of the baby boomers. With the baby boomers starting to enter into retirement the demand for specialty physicians that typically treat elders is increasing rapidly and there simply is not enough time for physicians to see all of their patients. One area that is really feeling the loss of physicians is cardiology. According to the American Heart Association, as of 2009, there was a shortage of about 1,700 general cardiologists in the […] Read more »
