KLAS Study Shows Healthcare Concerns over BYOD

byod

A recent study completed by KLAS Research shows that health care providers are concerned about security and safety in the ever increasing BYOD mobile healthcare environment. KLAS surveyed 105 CIOs, IT specialists, and physicians to complete their study. They found that 70 percent of physicians use mobile devices to access sensitive information including electronic health records. Even more surprising was that out of the people surveyed, 94% were using Apple products over Android or Blackberry. Apple has become a staple in modern technology and many professions are finding uses for Apple products outside of their normal capabilities. While Apple products and other Smartphone’s are impressive, they don’t provide the necessary security features that physicians need for communication. “With the increased use of personal mobile devices in healthcare becoming more prevalent, providers are very concerned about controlling what data is accessed, where it is stored, and how the data can be […] Read more »

Physicians State “iPads Increase Efficiency and Communication”

ipad

The iPad continues to be an impressive tool that has vastly improved the technological efforts in various fields especially healthcare. Recently two papers presented at the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) annual symposium in Chicago suggested that the iPad is a very popular tool for physicians. In fact physicians even stated that they would not use the  Electronic Medical Records system unless they could access it on iPads. With the number of Doctors in the workforce decreasing, doctors are feeling the pressure to be more efficient at work and are certain that iPads are the answer. In fact, 85 percent of emergency physicians interviewed already owned an iPad. The general themes that surfaced from these papers were that physicians expected iPads to improve their interaction with patients, make their workflow smoother, and improve communication. When the average physician-patient appointment time is less than 8 minutes, it makes sense that doctors […] Read more »

According to the report digital spending has been a “driving force of growth across all of its sectors, segments and sub-segments.” With the communication industry growing so rapidly and causing many businesses to experience significant growth as well, its time clinics and hospitals look into their communication systems. Many hospitals haven’t improved their communications systems since activating their traditional pager systems, which are now out of date technology. Physician Shortage Leads to Longer Wait Time for Patients

shortage of drs

If you had the chance to read OnPage’s previous post “Doctors speak up for Digital Communications” then you understand how overworked doctors are feeling with paperwork, patient visits, and follow ups. Well recently it has also been announced that there is a growing shortage of physicians in some specialties which could result in even longer wait times and delays in receiving medical care. A major reason our doctors are outnumbered by patients is because of the increasing age of the baby boomers. With the baby boomers starting to enter into retirement the demand for specialty physicians that typically treat elders is increasing rapidly and there simply is not enough time for physicians to see all of their patients. One area that is really feeling the loss of physicians is cardiology. According to the American Heart Association, as of 2009, there was a shortage of about 1,700 general cardiologists in the […] Read more »
