OnPage News: Network Monitoring

IoT Network

Article Courtesy of:  SPICEWORKS How the IoT is Changing Network Monitoring It’s hard to think of a name more vague than “the Internet of Things.”   The Internet is pretty hard to escape from anymore, unless you hit your roaming limit while driving through the Rockies (or your network monitoring tool misses that hub that went down) – it’s everywhere and everything, being usable from thousands of possible different interfaces. And things, well – they’re not persons or places, but that’s about as far as we can get into their specifics. What is (not) the IoT, anyway? A SpiceWorks Community thread from 2014 got to the heart of the IoT’s vagueness issue by asking what should NOT be grouped under its vast, wireless-enabled umbrella. One poster drew the line at his shaving razor, which we admit would seem to gain little or nothing from being connected to the public cloud. […] Read more »

What to Expect: Health Care & The Internet Of Things – IoT

OnPage - Internet of Things

Health Care & the Internet of Things – IoT. What’s next? Many believe that the “Internet or Things” or IoT is just on the cusp of exploding in our homes – garage-door openers that open when your car is nearby, refrigerators that use the Internet to place an order when the milk gets low, heating systems that turn on from our smartphone, etc. But what about healthcare & the Internet of Things? Will your runaway glucose level be reported to your doctor’s smartphone via a secure messaging alert? Or maybe it’s something else we haven’t even imagined yet? Predicting the health care technology future, even 3-5 years down the road, is a difficult task. Dr. Carl Sagan,  once said, “Prognosticating about the future is lost art.” Perhaps 150 years ago […] Read more »

Internet of Things – Separating the Critical Data

Internet of Things

There’s been a lot of hype about the Internet of Things – but what exactly is the “Internet of Things”, and how will the use and access of critical data affect your life?   The Internet of Things is simply the interconnection of computing devices that are connected to one another and to the Internet. With applications ranging from consumer to consumer, business to business, and government to industries. The abbreviation for it looks like this — IoT.So, what type of devices and applications are we referring to here? Well, hi-tech ones that you might find in a health care setting such as a heart monitoring implant, internet-linked billboards, waste management systems to monitor those who exceed waste limits, smart water systems and meters, wearable devices such as wristwatches that not only monitor time and manage texts and emails, but they also monitor the blood sugar in a person’s system.
