Onset Technology, an emergency communications company, has launched a paging system for Apple Inc.‘s (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhones and other smart phones. The mobile app may eliminate the need for doctors, paramedics and other emergency personnel to carry around two devices.
The privately held Waltham, Mass.-based company’s product, called OnPage, is a hosted, two-way paging service with global coverage on cellular and Wi-Fi networks
Onset executives said the service an be downloaded directly to smart phones and can be used without servers or infrastructure maintenance.
“Whether you are an ‘on-call’ healthcare professional or a busy parent in need of a direct line to your children, paging and priority messaging continues to serve a critical communications need. However—by forcing individuals to carry an additional and bulky device with limited functionality—there are inherent limitations in this aging technology,” Onset CEO Judit Sharonsaid in a statement. “OnPage is designed specifically to solve these critical priority messaging issues by transforming a user’s smartphone into a single device for all communications needs.”
